Today’s video is in response to a question I got from a small guy who’s struggling with big guys during his BJJ training. He’s a self-described bean pole who’s struggling to hold top position against his training partners.
He says he tries to hold mount a lot. And he also says that since he’s a good guard player he often feel comfortable to just sit back and allow his opponent’s to come up on top.
In today’s BJJ strategy video I’ll give you a few ideas to chew on regarding this situation in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, because it’s common. Keep in mind I’m not a small man. But I’ve still been with plenty of men much larger than I am who can throw me off if I get out of position.
I’ve also been coaching for over a decade and have seen how my smaller students gain the advantage over their larger opponents at time.
Now before I end this. Let me share this. I think any position can be used if done correctly. But I also believe that certain positions are easier than others for certain situations. In particular, I don’t think mount is the best position against people that are much larger than you. In the video I’ll explain why.
If you’d ever like to train with the team and I. Check out my gym Derby City MMA in Louisville,KY.
